Mechanical (P.E.) Engineer – HVAC

Xcel Mechanical Systems has an opening for a Professional Mechanical Engineer. This individual will assume the role of Mechanical Engineer for our organization and will join a team of other engineering and construction professionals servicing a diverse base of clients throughout the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. This is a full-time position and will be based in our Gardena, CA office.

General responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Perform all aspects of mechanical engineering design (specifically HVAC engineering and design) as a Mechanical Engineer, including Conceptual Studies, Program Requirements, Design Analyses, Calculations, Equipment selection and layout, and System selection and layout
• Meet with clients to prepare and/or validate proposed scope of services
• Direct and lead the work of junior engineers, provide training as directed
• Obtain guidance from Senior Management as necessary to resolve technical and coordination issues and conflicting criteria
• Ensure staff compliance with the Company’s quality control policies and procedures
• Provide and lead mechanical support services during the bidding process, i.e., preparing addenda and amendments as required
• Perform and lead mechanical construction phase services including representing the firm on-site, answering RFI’s, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings
• Work with, respond to, and take direction from Senior Management
• Participate in team meetings and coordinate efforts with other team members

Project responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Assist with Senior Mechanical Engineer tasks as directed
• Serve in the role of Design Manager on projects as assigned
• Conduct project code analysis for review by the Senior Mechanical Engineer
• Selection and layout of the building mechanical systems, including consideration of alternative systems
• Prepare accurate, complete, and code-compliant drawings and specifications for schematic, design development, and construction document submittals.
• Develop details of building system components
• Review calculations and work products produced by EI/EIT’s assigned to the project
• Develop discipline specifications for review by the Senior Engineer
• Coordinate work product with other disciplines
• Incorporate responses to QC comments into the project documents
• Assist in responding to RFI’s, client comments, etc.
• Review and respond to CA submittals
• Perform discipline QA/QC review on assigned projects
• Adhere to project budget and schedule

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) License
• 4+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering
• Proficient familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit and/or Plant 3D
• Ability to manage engineers and technicians as needed
• Mentor other engineers
• Organized, excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, good attendance, and sound problem-solving skills
