Detailer – Mechanical Piping & Plumbing

Xcel Mechanical Systems has immediate openings for Mechanical Piping & Plumbing Detailers with at least 5 years of industry experience. Qualified candidates will assume the role of a Detailer for their specific trade, and will join a team of other Engineering, Construction Management and Trade Professionals working on a variety of commercial HVAC & Plumbing projects across the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. This is a full-time union trade position based at our Gardena, CA office and Fabrication Facility.

Position Overview:

Applicants must be in good standing with their Local Union with a classification of Journeyman or higher. This position requires Autodesk Revit Fabrication experience and knowledge to prepare detailed HVAC & Plumbing models and drawings for fabrication and installation from engineered construction documents, and the ability to review models in Navisworks from all trades for coordination purposes.

Detailer Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed shop drawings for fabrication and installation based on 2D construction documents for mechanical HVAC & plumbing systems
  • Creation of Reports, MAJ’s, BOM’s, Spool Sheets, Clash Reports and Trimble files
  • Communicate with Field Managers to ensure project design requirements and field needs are met
  • Attend and effectively participate in coordination meetings both in-house and with external project teams
  • Follow Xcel Mechanical’s Detailing CAD standards
  • Understand and establish positive and functional job relationships
  • Effectively participate on your assigned project team to satisfy the customer’s needs
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Involved in assisting detailers to gain knowledge of the 3D coordination process
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Detailer Experience:

  • Five years of related experience, or equivalent years of education and training
  • Knowledge of commercial HVAC & Plumbing systems, mechanical (duct & piping) and plumbing construction methods and systems designs, particularly for Aerospace facilities, Education campuses, Hospitals, and Transportation hubs. This includes but is not limited to the ability to: Ability to read architectural, structural drawings and specifications. Ability to understand and apply information given through the submittal process.
    • Understand installation of HVAC & Plumbing systems
    • Coordinate systems with other disciplines in a 3D environment
    • Cost-effective routing and equipment location
    • Hangers & supports, including seismic bracing
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Fabrication, Revit, Navisworks, Manage and Simulate software applications
  • Ability to create spool and installation drawings and experience with BIM projects
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office productivity tools
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit Fabrication required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal communication/relationship skills
